BONESE COLLINS TURNER
This series “…in the beginning…” is an outgrowth of my long, ongoing exploration by visual means. Simply speaking, it is an artist’s musings on science and our world shaped by personal experience and the excitement and turmoil of our times. Memories of childhood visits to my father’s laboratories still retain that feeling of wonder and mystery; they are also a small tribute to my father and others like him – those that question, seek knowledge, explore and strive. May we gain wisdom from them.

Bonese Collins Turner is an artist, designer, educator who deals primarily with drawing, painting and printmaking. Her work has been exhibited in the White House, The Smithsonian Institute, The Butler Institute of American Art, the Rocky Mountain National, the National Watercolor Society, Watercolor USA, Watercolor West. The San Diego Watercolor Society, the 1984 LA Olympics Art Festival and numerous other exhibitions. She has had over 30 one-person exhibits. Her works hang in the permanent collections of the Brand Library, Glendale, CA; Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C., Home Savings & Loan, Los Angeles, CA; Oregon Council for the Arts, Newport, OR, Nebraska Public Libraries Collection, Lincoln, NE, San Bernardino Sun Telegram Newspapers Collection, CA, Hartung Performing Arts Center, Moscow, Idaho, the Robert V. Fulton Museum of Art at Cal St. Univ. San Bernardino, CA among others. She has won numerous awards including those from the Butler Institute of American Art, the Springfield Art Museum, Springfield, MO, National Watercolor Society, San Diego Watercolor Society, National Orange Show, Long Beach Nat’l, the International Acrylic Painters Ass’n, the Brand Nat’l., Women Painters /West, and the California State Fair. She has curated or co-curated several exhibitions including a Bicentennial Quilt Exhibit in 1976 at Pierce College, an exhibit of contemporary artists of the west at the Brand Library Art Galleries in Sept. 2006 and “Women of a Certain Age” at the Viva Gallery, Sherman Oaks, CA in 2007. She has served as a juror of numerous national exhibitions such as the National Watercolor Society, 1991, 1980, the Brand National Exhibition, 1996, 1980 and the San Diego Art Institute. She is featured in Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in American Art, Who’s Who in American Women, Who’s Who in the World and the California Art Review, the Best of Drawing and Sketching as well as Psychological Perspectives, the Autumn ’99 Watercolor Magic magazine and in interviews for Asahi and American cable television. She is included in the new book " 100 Artists of the West Coast" by Tina Skinner, Schiffer Publishing, Lmt. She serves on the advisory board for the College of Art & Architecture, University of Idaho and for Collegiate Press of San Diego, CA. She was selected by the Dale Chihuly Foundation to teach a watercolor seminar in 2005. She was elected president of the National Watercolor Society for 1989-90 and was awarded life membership in 1990.
